Welcome back to the prospect of regular gigging. I'm actually hoping to find out that there are some more inspiring synths and strings on the Stage 2, so if anyone can point me to some good demos I'd appreciate it. I'm not as impressed with the acoustic pianos from the online demos as I am with the Nord, but they do sound significantly better than the PC3x's triple-strike. There are several models of Kurzweil to choose from, Forte, Artis and PC3A. The synths and strings sound like they're straight out of the 90s. I'm not at all impressed with what I have been hearing (mostly from the Nord site). I was all set to make that my decision when I started to listen to the strings and synths demos. I feel I've narrowed my choices down to the Stage 2 EX 88 and something from Kurzweil.Д«ased on listening to online demos, I find the acoustic pianos on the Nord much better than anything else I've heard on hardware. I don't want anything too much heavier than the PC3x as I have psoriatic arthritis and find that quite difficult to manage by myself. Price is not particularly important as long as I see value in what I'm getting. Although I find the EPs quite usable on the PC3x I'd prefer to have better, more playable ones. They sound nice for about 15 minutes, but then I start to find them boring.ДЄcoustic piano is the most important thing, but I'm not keen on downgrading any of the other sounds. Largely, this is because I find the piano sounds too sterile. I'm looking for opinions and advice to help me narrow down my search and will probably have to travel quite some distance to another city to audition anything promising.Д«ased on my current experience, hands-on demos and online research I've eliminated everything from Roland, Yamaha, Casio, Korg and Kawai. I live in a town where the music stores only carry a few very mainstream keyboards. Although I don't play the B3 sounds much, I would like to have reasonable ones if possible. I do not want the hassle of more than one keyboard and do not want to use a computer for a number of reasons.ДЄll this means is it's time to start shopping for a new keyboard.ДЄbout 80% of what I use is acoustic piano, about 15% EPs and about 5% other sounds (mostly strings and synths).

Secondly, I'm not keen on relying on 7 year old electronics as the only keyboard in my setup. Firstly, I want piano sounds that I'm going to like.

I'm quite happy with most of the sounds except the acoustic pianos, but have been able to overcome that playing at home by using Ravenscroft 275 software piano on my computer.Д«ecause of the upcoming projects I want to get a new keyboard. My current keyboard is a PC3x that I've had for about 7 years and I'm surprised that I haven't become bored with it as I usually do with keyboards after a year or 2. There have been some significant changes in my life over the last couple of years and it looks like I'll be getting back into giging soon after many years away from it (a duo and a 4 piece, playing covers of popular music from the 60s to now).
